Annual Barbeque 2010

On the 25th of July 2010, Beaver Lodge held what is hoped to be an Annual Bar B Q in the garden of the Lodge rooms in Soest. There were 22 members and guests (unfortunately some were unable to get through a police barrier due to a Volks Bicycle Rally being held in the city) Bro Paul Haigh produced again an excellent selection of meats and salads; and our thanks go to him and his good lady for all the hard work they put in to make it a great day, thanks too to Bro Mike Hay and Anna who inadvertently turned up early (thank goodness) for all the work they too put in cleaning and erecting the chairs/tables/tent etc before the guests arrived. Bro Secretary greeted the District Master AF&AM, Bro Rainer Bauerlein, the Master vom Stuhl, Zur Bundeskette, Bro Guido Schäferhoff, Three World Globes our sister lodge in Soest, and the Meisterin vom Stuhl of the Rosengarten Lodge, Dortmund, Sister Brigitte Flint. An excellent day was had by all, the food was great and so to the weather; the extra work involved proved that we can get together in harmony and promote a more family connection, long may it continue. Unfortunately the Grand Master was unable to attend due to other commitments.

Grand Lodge Annual Communication – 2010

At the Grand Lodge (GLBFG) Communication held in the Freden Hotel, Bad Iburg on Saturday 8th of May 2010, members of Beaver Lodge were honoured.

In the first instance Worshipful Brother Dennis Russell PGStdB, was presented with an award from the Grand Master, Most Worshipful Brother John Barton Gibson BEM, in open Grand Lodge for his having completed 50 years as a Freemason. We from Beaver Lodge of course endorse that – very well done Dennis.

Worshipful Brother John (Shiny) MacKinnon DGDC was promoted by the Grand Master to Grand Director of Ceremonies in place of Worshipful Brother Ron Cairns who was promoted to Junior Grand Warden, both are ex Past Masters of Beaver; we congratulate them both keep up the good work – not far to Grand Master now Ron?

Very Worshipful Brother David Smith gave an excellent ‘final’ report on his retirement as Grand Treasurer, the Grand Master stated he regretted accepting his resignation but recognised that four years in this stressful job was perhaps enough, David is now a candidate to take over Beaver’s Treasurer job – we in turn welcome that, and thank him for all his dedication and hard work as Grand Treasurer.

Beaver was well represented in Grand Lodge as usual with ten regular members and two past members.

Annual families day lunch

Secretary

15th April 2010

As you can see Bro Paul Haigh has done us proud again with his decoration of the Lodge rooms in preparation for what has now become an Annual Families Day Lunch. This took place on Saturday the 10th of April 2010; and although the numbers were not so great (16) we were able to make welcome an old Past Master, WBro Ron Hubbard (1992-93) and his wife Margaret who now reside in Bovey Tracey in the UK . As always the meal was excellent and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We look forward to the next Families Event which is the Bar B Q to be held at the Lodge in July. Please inform the Secretary if it is your intention to participate – the Grand Master has provisionally agreed to join us.

News from the Colonies

Greetings have been received from WBro Brian Brown (Past Master of Beaver in 1986-87) who is currently living in Cyprus. He mentions that he is about to be appointed to District Grand Jnr Warden from being a Past Grand Jnr Warden (he states they do things backwards in Cyprus) we offer our heartiest congratulations on his appointment (or is it demotion – going backwards) and we hope he keeps up promoting Beaver on his travels. Stay in touch Brian, give our greetings to all in Cyprus.

Doric’s Installation

It is a well known fact that the Grand Master would like to see as many Brethren as possible from Constituent Lodges attending Lodge Installation Meetings; Beaver having had a great turnout at the Keys of Munster Lodge Installation on the 6th of February, we again had quite a strong representation at Doric’s Installation on the 20th of February, which included (as can be seen by the photograph) VWBro David Smith, WBro Ronnie Cairns, WBro Shiny MacKinnon, WBro Graham Flint. Although the numbers present left a lot to be desired, a great day was had by those attending. It was a pleasant surprise to see, also as a visitor, the Grand High Priest Bro Juan Brackins-Romero of the Supreme Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Germany and Illustrious Master of the Grand Council of Cryptic Masons of Germany, the webmaster has also included a photograph of him on this page; it is hoped he has no problems in Portugal (he was due to travel there during the week) where they have had very bad weather resulting in widespread devastation in some areas. Brethren it would seem Beaver is beginning to show the way in terms of getting out and about visiting, hopefully the momentum will be maintained; the Worshipful Master thanks all those making the effort to support him during his term in office. The next meeting of any significance is on the 6th of March in Gutersloh and it is hoped as many from Beaver will attend as possible.

Installation of Southern Star Lodge No. 1025, GL-BFG

Munich, Febuary 13. 2010

Today we were well represented at the Installation of Worshipful Brother David Smith of Southern Star Lodge No 1025, the most southern-most ‘outpost’ of the Grand Lodge of British Freemasons in Germany.
I must admit to cheating a little as I now live down south and only had an hours drive to attend the meeting, but I was very happy to be supported by fellow Beaver WBro Shiny MacKinnon and WBro Derek Hobden.
It was a wonderful day with an excellent ceremony that only added to the pleasure of meeting new friends and getting together again with old ones, especially WBro Roddy McKenzie, VWBro Garrett O’Sullivan and WBro Ronaldo Bruning, who also took it upon themselves to travel the 700 kms to attend – quite an achievement.
I would like to end this report by wishing WBro David, his Officers and all the brethren of Southern Star all the best for the ensuing year. Thank you all once again for a brilliant day.
I am looking forward to seeing you all again in the not too distant future – maybe even in Soest?

Sincerely & fraternally
Worshipful Brother Carl Pedley

The beginning

The White Rabbit put on his spectacles.
“Where shall I begin, please your Majesty?” he asked.

“Begin at the beginning,”
The King said, very gravely,
“and go on till you come to the end:
then stop.”
